Biomimetic Dentistry

Biomimetric dentistry is dentistry which mimics nature. In other words it is dentistry which restores teeth to emulate their natural esthetic form and function. It treats week, fractured and decayed teeth in a way that keeps them strong and seals them from bacterial invasion. Modern dental adhesives and bonding techniques are the foundation of biomimetric dentistry. This foundation is critical. Antibacterial priming, bonding and layering techniques are utilized to create a protective barrier over the exposed tooth. This protects the tooth from bacterial infection and at the same time adheres to the tooth with once unachievable bond strength. This creates a stronger tooth, not just a stronger crown. Biomimetic dentistry reduces the cutting down of the natural tooth for crowns and other restorations, conserving as much natural tooth structure as possible and utilizing the latest in dental materials and techniques also preserves as much natural tooth as possible. With traditional dentistry, in order to restore a tooth, healthy tooth structure is unnecessarily removed or destroyed. By using advanced bonding techniques and properly constructed Same Day Inlays/Onlays, Dr. Scianni helps save his patient’s teeth, time and money. In a nutshell the philosophy that lies at the heart of biomimetric dentistry is that of preservation and conservation.
